Does the advertisement sound familiar? Of course, it will be familiar as there is no way to hide from such advertisements today. Nowadays it is very common to see entire families owning smartphones enabled with internet connections. And according to my own unverifiable estimates 80% of the smartphone users spend 80% of their time addicted to the following online activities from the time they wake up till the time they go to bed.

  • Check their personal emails every three minutes.

  • Upload a selfie, photo, video or like something on Facebook every one hour and read the comments.

  • Instantly watch some funny video that went viral on YouTube.

  • Immediately forward a joke to on WhatsApp to all your 650 contacts and read all their funny replies, LOLs and OMGs.

  • See what important hashtag you missed on twitter in the last five minutes and quickly tweet your stunning opinion.

  • Sit in heavy traffic fuming and calculate the length of the traffic jam in kilometres while listening to some free online music.

  • Check important information like the specs of the next shiny Smartphone that got released today morning.

  • Download a new cool ringtone or play some game or some useful app like checking the temperature on different planets.

  • Occasionally, look for some information like news summaries, some educational stuff, or some latest breaking news from Timbaktu, etc.

Though smartphones have many advantages have you ever wondered what it is really costing a modern family of three to own Smartphones and do the above online activities daily? No idea? Then let us run through some numbers assuming zero inflation on costs of handsets and usage charges. But first you need to let me know which Smartphone family you belong.
